The blue one

This tenement is situated on Walowa Street which crosses Jagiellonska Street. It is beautiful building but unfortunately quite devastated by the passing time. We wish it will be renovated:)

There are cake shop and stores with clothes on the ground floor of the building.

March 30, 2009

Long and Yellow

This building is situated in the very center of Nowy Sacz, just one minute walking from the town square. On the left there is the Square of May 3rd (it commemorates the day of May 3rd, 1791 - establishing of the first Polish constitition - it's worth to know that it was first constitution in Europe and second in the world - just four years after the American one).

March 29, 2009

Pink-green gallery

Today we present you the view on the tenement in the second part (where car traffic is allowed) of Jagiellonska Street . On the ground floor of this newly renovated building one of the art galleries has its residence.

March 28, 2009

Birds' perspective

Birds look at the world not only from above but also from this perspective:)

As you can recognize from our older posts this is the main street of the town - Jagiellonska Street.

The last turn before the spring

We hardly believe that after this turn there's the final straight to the spring. Dear winter - see you in December, spring - stay with us!:)
The photo was taken in Nowy Sacz's district of Helena.

Spring vs. Winter. The final battle

This year the winter is extremely owly and it does not want to accept that it's already a spring-time:) But it seems to be that the victory of the spring is very close:)
In today's photo you can see the ruins of Nowy Sacz's castle, another perspective of it with some historical background you can find here.

March 25, 2009

Dark cinnamon door

Yesterday we experienced all four seasons - it was sunny, rainy, windy and snowy:) Because of such crazy weather we didn't take any photo so we have dived into our photoarchive:)

This photo was taken during our walk about two weeks ago (on Sunday). We noticed this sweet door in unique red-brown colour captured with the brick wall (even the letterbox is in the same colour) :) We would like to share with you this photo:)

March 24, 2009

Thin and Fat

In today's photo there are the properties of the former monastery of Franciscans (on the left) and the Evangelical Church (on the right). You could also see these buildings in our blog in another perspective few days ago.
The photo was taken from the right bank of the Dunajec river.

March 23, 2009

Wolki

This is the view from Narutowicza Street toward the one of the Nowy Sacz's housing estates called 'Wolki'. You can see in the photo the corner of Zeglarska and Lokietka streets. It is just next to the railway's track. Many of the trees which you can see in the background are in so called 'Strzelecki Park'.

St. Casimir's church inside

Finally we managed to enter to the St. Casimir's church. Tomorrow we will show you next two photos from the inside of this beautiful church. Have a nice weekend!

March 20, 2009

La Rocca

This is the advertisement of one of the pizza parlours in Nowy Sacz called La Rocca. It is situated on Wasowiczow Street (which is parallel to Jagiellonska Street), in the center of the town. It is located in the underground of the tenement which you can see in the second photo.

March 19, 2009

Nowy Sacz's Townhall

Townhall - the heart of the town and probably the most characteristic element of Nowy Sacz. Other photos of the building with some historical background you can find here.

March 18, 2009

The Railway Bridge

According to our yesterday's promise we want to show you the railway bridge over the Dunajec River.

March 17, 2009

Waiting for the spring

You may ask - 'why did you post a photo from outside of the town, a photo from total rathole while this is a city daily blog'?
We should post photos from Nowy Sacz and... we really do it!:) Can you imagine that the place on today's photo is about TWO minutes walking from the very center of Nowy Sacz?:)
In the photo there is the Dunajec River, mountains in the background and the nature which is still waiting for the real spring:) You can also notice the railway bridge over the river (behind the tree in the left side of the photo), which you will see fully in our tomorrow's post:)

March 16, 2009

Lwowianka

The glass building on the right is a place where you can buy and eat the most famous ice-cream in the town. There is the 'Lwowianka' ice cream parlor, but people of Nowy Sacz don't use this name. When we go there, we just say that we go to Argasinski (the name of the owner and the producer).
It is located in the center of Nowy Sacz, on Kosciuszki Street, halfway between the St. Casimir's church and Jagiellonska Street.

Referring to Gliwice Daily Photo:) - The scenery of both photos is similar, what is more - when you turn right after about 100 metres (and go along Jagiellonska Street), you get the town square ('Rynek') - exactly the same like in Gliwice:)

March 15, 2009

Sunny optimism [2]

Today some promised details of the building from yesterday's photo. We hope that you enjoy it!:)

March 14, 2009

Sunny optimism

Beautiful sunny Saturday in Nowy Sacz!:)
The photo was taken on Jagiellonska Street. This tenement is one of the most impressive in the town in our opinion. There is a bookstore ('ksiegarnia') in the first floor. Tomorrow we will post some more details of this building which looks even better in the reality than in our photos:)
Have a great weekend!

March 13, 2009

The view from the bridge over Dunajec

This photo was taken from the bridge over the Dunajec River. You can see in it (from the left) the tower of Nowy Sacz's townhall, the spire of properties of former monastery of Franciscans, the cupola of the Evangelical Church and the building of 'Panorama' Hotel.
At the bottom of the photo there is the Dunajec River. For a few weeks, when the spring finally will come to Nowy Sacz, the banks of the river will be a beautiful green areas where people will find relax:)

March 12, 2009

The blue reflection

There is Polish proverb - 'In March like in the pot'. Unfortunately it is really accurate to March in this year - after one sunny day gloomy ones have come. But we want to show you blue sky so that's why we have chosen such photo for today:) (It was taken on Tuesday).
This modern building is situated on Zielona Street (Green Street). In the building there is the store with various staff for house (furniture, bathrooms accessories etc.)
We have noticed with astonishment and with great satisfaction that our blog was mentioned in the article in local newspaper 'Dziennik Polski'. Above you can see the online version of it.

March 11, 2009

To go with the river

'Finally!'- we could say yesterday. As you can see in the photo the weather was much better yesterday than during last days.
In the photo there is the view on the Nowy Sacz's old town from the footbridge over the Kamienica River. It's not far away from the church of Our Lady Immaculate. In the background you can see the Saint Margaret's church and the townhall.

March 10, 2009

Sobieskiego Street

We are still waiting for the spring in Nowy Sacz. As you can see the weather is rainy and rather gloomy in recent days.
In today's photo there is Sobieskiego Street in the very center of Nowy Sacz. On the round sign which you can see in the foreground there is the advertisement of the store with products of the Order of Saint Benedict. You can buy there great bread, ham, different juices, vine etc. - all made by formula created by monks from this Order. In the background the St. Margaret's church.

The weather must be better!:) We hope:)

March 9, 2009

The red phone booth again

There were many comments about our yesterday's photo in context of the red phone booth:) Thus, today this phone booth is the head element in our blog:)
Of course the phone booths in Poland don't look like this one on the photo. The red phone booth is probably the most characteristic icon of Great Britain (next to the red double-decker:)) So it's not a coincidence that this red phone booth is exactly in the front of the school of English. We try to go into it but it is closed - there is nothing inside. It is just a part of advertising:)

March 8, 2009

The school of English

In today's photo there is a private school of English. It is located in the center of Nowy Sacz, on Matejki Street (not far away from the 'Falcon' and the St. Casimir Church).

March 7, 2009

Over the ground

If you look at this photo precisely you will see many of pigeons which relax on the roof of one of the tenements in Jagiellonska Street. We took the photo from Kosciuszki Street.

March 6, 2009

The Home of Investment and Renovation

This is a new perspective on this tenement which you can see in another our post (here). This building is located on Szwedzka Street (Swedish Street). There is the Nowy Sacz's Department of Investment and Renovation in this tenement. It is not surprisingly that the building is lovely renovated:)

March 5, 2009

St. Casimir's church

This church was built in 1908-1912. Today you can see how it looks like in the beginning of March, when the spring is almost comming to Nowy Sacz:). (The photo of the church in really snowy scenery from January you can find here).
St. Casimir's church is very beautiful inside. Unfortunately, it's not opened all day long (as for instance the 'Railway Church'), so we have not managed take the photos inside it yet. But we will try. Promise:)

March 4, 2009

Elegant

Indeed, it's elegant. This tiny tenement (situated on Jagiellonska Street) was renovated last year. Before that it had to be perfectly common building, because we don't remember how did it look like before the restoration:)

March 3, 2009

The place with the Polish history in the background

In today's photos there is the house where Jozef Pilsudski lived in 1914. Pilsudski was the most considerable politician in Poland in the 1920s. and 1930s. He was the Chief of State (1918-22), marshal and the ruler of the Second Polish Republic (1926-35).
This building is situated in the center of Nowy Sacz, on the corner of the streets Dunajewskiego and Szwedzka (Swedish).

March 2, 2009

John Paul II on the market square

In todays's photo there is the monument of the Pope John Paul II. It is just next to the townhall.

The monument was bared 16 October 2005.

March Theme Day: Glass - railway stained glasses

According to our yesterday's promise, there are railway details in today's photos. You can see fragments of stained glasses which are in the main nave, near altar. Do you know any other church in the world where you can see choo choo and waggons in the stained glasses?:)

Of course the photos were taken in the 'Railway Church' (you can see it here and here).
