Solidarity with Iran

Today, we post a monument of Solidarity (Solidarność) - the Polish anti-communist movement, which led to the collapse of the authoritarian regime in Poland in 1989.
The monument is situated near the Roundabout of Solidarity in Nowy Sacz.

We would like to express our support for people in Iran who fight for their political and human rights. We know that it is a battle for the future of Iran. In Poland - where we regained complete sovereignty and democracy just 20 years ago - we understand the aspirations of Iranian people very well.

Looking down: Thin and Fat towards the grandeur of Nature

The weather is still so awful that we do not take any new photos. We are reaching for our archive. The photo was taken last week.

Do you remeber the Thin and Fat* at our blog?:) If not, you can see them here. Aren't they a little bit smaller toward these hills and especially the Tatras in the background?:)

* - saying Thin and Fat we mean the former monastery of Franciscans and the Evangelical Church:)

Some colours in rainy days

The weather in Nowy Sacz is terrible. It's raining all the time. This is why we want to show you something colourful:)
Today you can see the stained-glass window in the church of Saint Casimir. The stained-glass windows in this church were designed by nephew of famous painter Jan Matejko - Stefan Matejko. This one was made in 1912 in Cracow but during the II World War it was damaged. The renovation took place in 1952.

St. Helena's Church

We mentioned about this church several times at this blog, but we've never showed it really visibly. You could see it here and here, but today we'd like to present something more:)

This is the church of St. Helena, located in Nowy Sacz's district of... Helena:). The photo was taken from the bank of Dunajec river (exactly from this spot:))

Planty Park: a new visage

The 'Planty' Park has changed. It is almost after the renovation. There are new alleys and some new forms of greenery. When the modernization will be fully completed we will post more detailed pictures:)
Other photos from the park you can see here.

Where is the town?

From this perspective, Nowy Sacz is below - "between" the cornfield and the mountains:)

Looking down: around the castle

In today's photo we present you the broad view on the right bank of Dunajec River. You can see the castle, the spire of the former monastery of Franciscans and the railway bridge. The huge hall opposite the castle is the ice-cream factory, it belongs to local businessman.

Looking down: Commieblocks

Today a little different "architecture". In the photo there are commieblocks on 'Barskie' housing estate. They were built in the 1980s. Some years ago the blocks were thermoinsulated and they gained new colourful facades. Before that, they were all grey and look very sadly.

These commieblocks are also fine places to take "aerial photos":) In the winter we tried them - here and here you can see the results.

Looking down: Basilica

Many bloggers stated that the modern church from our yesterday's photo does not fit to the surroundings, that it is all too huge and so on:) We can agree:)

Today, we are posting the view on the church of St. Margaret. When to compare this scene with yesterday's one, it seems to be obvious that in the past people built better:)
In the very left side of the photo you can also notice the St. Casimir's church.

Looking down: the modern church and the sports hall

In today's photo you can see, inter alia, the church of Our Lady Immaculate and the sports hall (on the left from the church). Behind them there is the 'Wojska Polskiego' ('The Polish Army') housing estate.

Mountain View

About two weeks ago, we wrote that it is possible to see The Tatras by a good clarity of the air. Today's cloudless weather proves it!:)

In the photo you can see The Tatras "over" Nowy Sacz's disctrict of Helena.
In the nearest future we'll post some photos from this place where we took today's one. (The new header is also the result of our today's walk:))

The Wooden Architecture Route [13] - Sekowa

It seems to be that it is our last stop on the Wooden Architecture Route:) At the end we would like to show you the most impressive church - in Sekowa.
The temple was built in the 16th century and it is entered onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.
More information in the last photo.

Celebration

On Saturday we wrote about the success of Sandecja (the football club is promoted the Polish 2nd Division, called I Liga).
Yesterday there was organized the celebration of this event.
In the photos you can see a march of Sandecja's fans on the streets of Nowy Sacz. People followed the platform with footballers. There was a very nice atmosphere and the celebration moved to the one of the parks.
After the celebration there took place some unfortunate incidents (Polish bloggers could hear about them in the Polish mass media) but it is nothing interesting to post it here.

To live in seclusion

Formerly, it was a village. Now, it is within the town borders.
The house is situated near the industrial estate from yesterday's photo. Very close to the Dunajec River (the photo was taken from the bank of the river).

Ecoindustry?

The view on the southern, industrial estates of Nowy Sacz. In this part of the town there are many big companies (for instance Fakro - the 2nd in the world producer of roof windows with 15% of the global market).

In today's photo there is the place where the Kamienica River flows into the Dunajec River.

SANDECJA is coming back to the 2nd Division (I Liga)!

Sandecja is the oldest (established in 1910) and the most popular sport club in the region of Nowy Sacz. Yesterday footballers of Sandecja won in the last game of current season in an away game in Piotrkow Trybunalski and the club is promoted to the Polish 2nd Division (I Liga)! It is the biggest success of sport in Nowy Sacz for many years. The last time when Sandecja played in this level was 17 years ago, in the season 1991/92.
We are posting also some photos from Sandecja's stadium. Its capacity is about 5000 (3200 seats).
It is possible that after the promotion the stadium will be modernized.

Say hello to Mr. President:)

Yesterday Nowy Sacz hosted the President of Poland Lech Kaczynski. He had a brief speech at the town square.
Sorry for the quality of the photos, we didn't plan to be there yesterday and we didn't take our camera. As you can guess the photos were taken by a mobile phone.

From on High...

In order to see such mountain view you don't have to go far away from the town. This photo was taken from a spot just about one hour walking from the place where we live in Nowy Sacz (and you should know that we reside rather in central part of the town:)).
In the photo there is a view from 'Przekaznik'. When you look at this photo, the town is on the right from it (the view on Nowy Sacz from this place you can see in our new header:))

This is one of the cute window in this church which made us smiling:)

The Wooden Architecture Route [11] - Owczary

We are coming back to the Wooden Architecture Route. This is the church in Owczary. It was built in the 17th century.
When we were there the service took place. In May in Polish churches and near the roadside shrines people gather before the evening mass and sing litany to Saint Mary (Litania Loretanska).
In Owczary there were only few women and some children and they sang out of tune:)
More details about the church you can read in the photo above.
