Going to the work... for over 100 years

Historically, Nowy Sacz is a town of railway. According to this fact, a monument of railwayman appeared last year in the front of Nowy Sacz's Railway Station. The monument symbolizes the hard work of railway's workers.
Our railway station is in a bad condition, but fortunatelly it is going to be fully renovated this year.

Red Square

Hello again!:)
In today's photo you can see the square just next to the 'Planty' Park and the monument of one of the most famous Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz.
Why the Red Square? It is sometimes called that by the people of Nowy Sacz because of the red brick (it's obvious:)) but also because of the monument. Is it beuatiful? We do not know. For sure it seems to be in socialist style (like in Moscow, this is why this place is called Red Square). Mickiewicz deserved something better:)

Old Cemetery

This is the entrance (from Freedom Avenue) of so called Old Cemetery in Nowy Sacz. There are many old interesting gravestones. We will show you some of them in the future.
In the background you can see a small church which is often called the church at Old Cemetery:)

Boulders

We are again in the 'Planty' Park. In the photo there are two boulders-monuments.
The bigger one commemorates the pilgrimage of Pope John Paul II to Nowy Sacz's region in 1999. On the smaller boulder you can read a text: 'Oak of Freedom 1918' ('Dąb Wolności 1918'). It seems to be that it is about the oak which you can see in this photo. The monument commemorates the restoration of Poland's independence in 1918.

Solidarity with Iran

Today, we post a monument of Solidarity (Solidarność) - the Polish anti-communist movement, which led to the collapse of the authoritarian regime in Poland in 1989.
The monument is situated near the Roundabout of Solidarity in Nowy Sacz.

We would like to express our support for people in Iran who fight for their political and human rights. We know that it is a battle for the future of Iran. In Poland - where we regained complete sovereignty and democracy just 20 years ago - we understand the aspirations of Iranian people very well.

Topless

We found her on one of the tenements in Nowy Sacz's center. She was standing at the corner of Jagiellonska Street and Lwowska Street. When we will walk there next time we will check if she is still standing there:)

The Wooden Architecture Route [6] - Wolowiec

Today next two photos from Wolowiec. In the second photo you can see one of the gravestones from small and old cementary near the church.
Some of the tombstones are not in good condition. The inscriptions are written in the Cyryllic alphabet (Lemkos use it). It makes that sometimes you can feel there more like in Ukraine or Belarus than in Poland:)

This is the statue of Wladyslaw Jagiello - the Polish king from the XV century. He laid the foundation for the centuries-long Polish-Lithuanian Union. He run the war with the Teutonic Order - Jagiello together with the Lithuanian army defeated the enemy during the Grunwald's battle in 1410 (this date is remembered by every Pole). This statue was founded in 500 anniversary of this event.
This sculpture is situated of course on Jagiellonska Street:)

The castle of Nowy Sacz and its guardian

It is not exactly a castle but rather ruins of it. The castle was blown by German soldiers during the World War II. After the end of the war, bastille (Baszta Kowalska) was rebuilt.

The small knight appeared in the front of the ruins last year. It is connected with the legend about the castle and the mysterious spring. Usually the knight pees but unfortunately it is currently freezing cold and he has to wait for the spring:) He quickly became tourist attraction, even newly-weds come there and take photos with him.

The photo was taken during our yesterday's walk.
