The Wooden Architecture Route [4] - Hanczowa

Today we're moving from Kwiaton to Hanczowa - a village situated about 50 kilometers from Nowy Sacz.
This church was built in the second half of the 19th century and, similarly like the Kwiaton's one, is a great example of Lemkos culture. More information about this temple you can find in the last photo (click on it to enlarge).

To widać. "Tutaj" się budowało zupełnie inaczej.

Aż nie wiem kiedy umieścić Św. Józefa na blogu, tak jakoś ubogo by wyglądał...

Great images, it is really great to see the inside.
Do you think there are still around (in Poland) people capable of building such architecture in wood? I mean the real craftsmen with skills and someone to draw a project in wood.

The architecture looks very similar to the other church, and equally beautiful! I find it so fascinating.

I followed your Lemkos link to know more about this culture and people. Andy Warhol was on the list of famous Lemkos — cool!

These are so intriguing! I've never seen anything like it, but I probably said that before. Does it smell musty and churchy inside?

@Vogon Poet - we don't know - maybe there are people who can do it, we hope.
@Jacob - yes, there is specific smell inside - some kind of mixture of the old wood and the holy water:)
Thanks for all your comments, we are happy that you enjoy places we show you!

This architecture is just wonderful! I also opened the link to Lemkos, until not a for me completely unknown culture and population (and also found Andy Warhol(a))! Thanks! You always learn something from blogging! :-)

I love it...it looks like a wooden spaceship that just landed...does it smell of wood inside? In Canada many homes are built of cedar and they smell wondeful inside.

Wow... really beautiful churches. I'm amazed by the great craftmanship.

I didn't know about Lemkos too, but it's good to learn about them now :)
