The Wooden Architecture Route [1] - Kwiaton

As we promised few days ago we are going to show you some interesting places from outside the town. Today we are starting the series of very beautiful and old wooden churches from 'The Wooden Architecture Route' ('Szlak Architektury Drewnianej'). We hope you will enjoy our photos of the unique objects (some ot them are put on the UNESCO List of World Cultural and Natural Heritage) which we will post at this blog. More information about 'The Route' you can find on its official site. Let's start our virtual trip! We are warmly inviting you to join us!:)

The first temple which we would like to present you is loacated in Kwiaton - a village situated about 45 kilometers on the east from Nowy Sacz. It is a church built in the second half of the 17th century, in the past Greek Catholic, currently Roman Catholic.

More information about this church you may find in our today's third photo (click on it to enlarge).

One can certainly see the Greek influences. I find it somewhat strange that it is now Roman Catholic...

Are there not a number of older wooden structures in Poland?

It is almost unreal. Your photograph of the outside is the best! (I'm adding it to my top 10 blog photos!) Thx for all the interesting details and the icons photo. My mom is Serbian Orthodox (Pravoslavna) so I am more familiar with the service in old Slavonic than Catholic.

I have seen these architectures in an open air museum in Lviv. Very beautifull!

Are you really going to follow this route? Great idea, these photos are wonderful and the wooden church is amazing.
I checked the website (very good!) and I'm so proud I visited some on my own years ago!

Ja tam niby bywałem, ale niczego nie kojarzę z tego Szlaku Architektury Drewnianej. Chyba tylko Dębno mi się przypomina...

@Jacob - most of such wooden churches is situated on the south of Poland. This is beacuse of the fact that in this region of Poland Lemkos lived. More details in tommorow's post!
@Vogon Poet - yes, we are going to follow this route:)

Wow! This is fantastic! At first it looked like 'stupas' or little pagodas to me. Amazing interior too!
