This is the statue of Wladyslaw Jagiello - the Polish king from the XV century. He laid the foundation for the centuries-long Polish-Lithuanian Union. He run the war with the Teutonic Order - Jagiello together with the Lithuanian army defeated the enemy during the Grunwald's battle in 1410 (this date is remembered by every Pole). This statue was founded in 500 anniversary of this event.

Great to read about King Wladyslaw Jagiello and the Teutonic Order. Do you know that we have a well-preserved bailiwick of the Teutonic Order in Marburg. Our Elisabeth Chruch was built by the Order in 13. Century (1235-1335) over the grave of holy Elisabeth of Thueringen (1207-1231).

500+ years. Most of us will be pretty well forgotten before 50 years have passed...
I know next to nothing about Polish history, so this was very interesting. I also like the uniqueness of a statue installed on the building rather than on a separate pedestal. Very nice.
