Window protected - window decorated

The 'Railway church'. Is this grating there more for safety or for decoration?

The way I figure it, some places need grills for protection (like Manila!). So might as well make it pretty, right? :)

Hmm I wonder what they are trying to keep out or in? Very nice looking though.

I also liked the picture as well. Shame on me, but I never noticed the bars before...

Well done and traditionally, best regards from Islamabad,

Hilda phrased it pretty well. Why not have the unavoidable look reasonably nice?

The only risk is that somebody will try to steal the grating itself which is really beautiful...

Maybe a bit of both! Nicely-detailed photo, m_m! The grating does take away from the window, but at the same time the grating is attractive in its own right.

If you can make protection be so decorative, it's a perfect compromise! :-)
