Today is the Palm Sunday. In the photo you can see the palm which is on the town square. Its height is about 25 metres and there are about 7,000 flowers on it.We remember that when we were children there was the competition for the highest palm in some churches in Nowy Sacz:) Nowadays, such competition takes place for example in Lipnica Murowana (in the south of Poland) - some palms were even 30 metres high. In our climate palms for this Sunday are made mostly from flowers (also artificial ones), ribbons etc.

That's a very interesting custom. All we do is bring palm leaves, usually twisted up and decorated, to Mass.
Great tradition, spectacular "palm". Is this the famous Rynek? If I remember well is the second largest after Krakow.

Fascinating tradition. I had not thought that not all countries are able to get palm leaves and have to think through another way of celebrating. This is a wonderful palm: very colourful and very tall.

@Vogon Poet - Yes, we've also heard that Nowy Sacz's Rynek is second largest after Krakow's one. Probably it depends how to measure it:)

We also call it Palm Sunday, but it is next week (12/4) in Greece.
And, no palms also. Only a lot of bay leaves, that are given to people after the Sunday mass, to take them home as a blessing.

What an interesting tradition.Here in Arizona palm trees are every where, so we get palm branches on Palm Sunday. Your tradition is quite beautiful. I have never heard of that before. Thank you for the information.
Lovely looking square, and palm pole. The square and architecture is rather similar to the ones found in Swedish smalltowns. And the pole, well a lot (though not this tall!) of similarities to our May pole on Midsummer:)
