Four such noble lions guard the bridge on Lviv Street (Lwowska). On the shield which is kept by lions there is the crest of Nowy Sacz (Saint Margaret standing on defeated dragon).

Lions are often used to "guard" things...and for good reason, I guess. I'm always amazed at how important the Catholic religion is in your daily life and public life.
